CTE Regional Meetings
Contextualized Teaching and Learning: CTE/Basic Skills
workshops help Career and Technical Educators understand the linkages
between basic skills and Career Technical Education (CTE). The
objective of this workshop is to inform CTE Deans, and CTE and basic
skills faculty about contextualized teaching and learning and get them
motivated to learn more. Attendees will experience and be introduced to
the following:
-
Common misconceptions about students with basic skills needs.
-
Contextualized Teaching and Learning (CTL) methodologies.
-
Barriers and opportunities for bringing CTL to their campuses.
-
A showcase of students describing their excitement as participants in contextualized learning programs.
-
Examples of contextualized lessons and critiques of them.
-
Create activities that provide them with walk-away products that they can take back to their campuses.
Participants will have opportunities to share lessons that are commonly
taught in their classrooms, and basic skills faculty will provide
feedback on ways to readily engage your students with basic skills
needs in the lesson.
Cost: There is no registration fee for this meeting series.
Those traveling 150 miles or more in one direction to attend can
request mileage reimbursement and hotel accommodations from the
Academic Senate.
