First year experience programs, tutoring programs, and cross curricular programs
(e.g., Writing Across the Curriculum, Learning Communities, CTE and basic skills
infusions) have proven to be effective ways of promoting the success of students
with basic skills needs. The Spring 2009 Regional Workshops will focus on these
three types of programs and the different approaches used by colleges in your
region. Come with a team from your college and learn how to overcome some of
the challenges you may encounter in starting and sustaining such a program and,
more importantly, the rewards you can expect as you establish programs
appropriate for your campus. Your college team will work with leaders of
established successful programs to assess the needs of your campus and assist
you in devising a workable plan to address those needs.
The team is limited to 10 people comprised of the following (or designee) CIO, BSI coordinator, Senate President, basic skills faculty, and faculty involved or interested in FYE programs,
tutoring programs, and cross curricular programs.
We will reimburse expenses for those traveling at least 2 hours or 150 miles round trip. We will, however, not provide air travel for someone attending the North from the South and vice versa (with exception).
